Default BES 4.1 Fresh install no BB sync

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have recently tried to activate a blackberry to a freshly installed BES server unfortunatey its not sync'ing at all, it says activation has completed but doesnt actually update the server or pull any data.

the CDO.dll file on both the exchange server and bes server match so i know that there isnt a version missmatch.

Im stumped as to what to look for as the bes server talks to RIM ok, and the bb seems to think its activated ok.

Could it be something to do with the carrier? (O2 btw)

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Bob

From my limited experience it sounds like a data issue with your cell carrier, O2.

Maybe some more experienced users can chime in?

Are other devices working properly? Look in Task Manager and make sure blackberryagent.exe is running. 1 should be running for each messaging agent. If there are none it may be a MAPI profile issue

Just has similar issue, carrier forgot to setup data plan.

Tried again and carrier setup wrong data plan.

I would like to see a special app or webpage to be able to verify BES service on a device.

im not at the site now so unfortunately i cant check, i will be back next tuesday so i can double check these things.

I now know the site were having firewall issues, just out of curiosity is there anything i need to add (IP address + ports) to the firewall?

There is only one blackberry registered since the product is the express version.

If the activation worked wirelessly it's not a carrier issue. Activation will only work wired(USB) if the data plan is not correct.

What account did you use to install the BES? Are all the BB services running? Are there any errors/warnings in the Application Log from BlackBerry Dispatcher/Controller/Messsaging Agent?

BESadmin with relevant permissions.

Ive checked the logs theres no mention of any glaringly obvious errors, the MAPI stuff finds the exchange server no problems and i can add the user into bes without any trouble.

as far as i know all the services are running, clicking start all services in BES should be enough right?

after checking the services list it says one is disabled... but thats the default... nothing we've done.

also in the utility folder theres the bbsrvsomething.exe that tests the connection to the Blackberry server... which connects and returns ok so thats what makes me think its a firewall thing.

im not sure whether the activation worked well wirelessly or not as the user has his bb sync'd via cable, I tried to activate it wirelessly and the BES got the pin but nothing else... then after a couple of hours the activation password set line changed to activated (or something of that ilk)

it may be O2's fault but the guy couldnt find any information on whether he has BIS of BES... since its a business account i would assume its a BES account but im not too sure so i need him to check first.

another thing thats irritating me about this whole thing is the fact hte phone goes through the whole activation thing (its actually doing the wizard and chosing the business/enterprise activation) but then its just moving onto the next screen after about 15 seconds... every time ive activated a blackberry before its sat there whilst going though the whole sync'ing address book - complete etc phaze.

another reason why im led too believe its a firewall thing...

ive had a look about and i cant see any other ports to allow other than 3101... for exchange does anyone know of any more? also what is the bb.net address i need to allow (or IP address depending on what way my boss wants to have it setup)

thanks.
