Default old deleted appointment did not synch

Please Login to Remove!

Here is the scenario:
User goes on vacation 3 weeks ago, turns Blackberry off. The following day, her secretary deletes an appointment in her calendar for this morning.
User turns Blackberry back on yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks. Deletion does not synchronize to device.
I'm assuming this is by design (changes only stay on BES for a certain time limit?). A manual reconciliation updated the deletion.
Can this time frame be extended?
Thanks for any help.
