Default BES with Non-Exchange Admins

Please Login to Remove!

I need to allow a user that is not an Exchange admin access to the BES Management console. Does anyone have any experience setting this up?

Thanks

Do you want them to have full control of the mgmt console? if so, they only need rights to the database not exchange. They can install the mgmt console on their pc and connect that way as long as they have rights to right to the database.

Alternately, there is also something called Setadminkey, I belive from rim that is a registry hack that scales down permissions on the console so they can't do thinks like delete a server accidentally. Check on RIMs web site for that tool.

No, the need full access to create accounts etc. When they run the application with Exchange admin permissions removed they get a "unable to connect to database" error. Add the permissions and all works well.

I always have people log in using the besadmin account. Let's them do anything they need without being a full exchange admin.

They need permissions set on the BES admin mailbox for full permissions within Exchange, if I remember correctly. They also need access to the rim_db_bes_server and db_owner on the BESMgmt database, I think (dontcha love these uncertainties). Install BlackBerry Manager on their machine (or on a separate workstation) and setup the MAPI profile for the BES account (hence the Exchange permissions to the mailbox). After you have done this, run SetAdminKey.exe from the Tools directory on the BES CD (or from the downloaded installation) with the flag of -p from the command line.

This will atleast give them permissions for their own login w/o giving them the ability to read other people's emails.
