Default BES Keep Message Duration (SMS, EMAIL, ETC.)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello.

Question #1: I have searched the forum and google but have come to no definate conclusions. Does the IT Policy of "Keep Message Duration" apply to both email and sms messages?

Question #2: Does BES have an alterate solution for controlling the amount of SMS and Email stored on a phone with Blackberry Professional Software 4.1.4.2? For example, storage size of email messages instead of days kept on the device.

Thanks.

I'm still having the same concerns. Does anyone know of an alternate method to prune messages 3 days+ on a blackberry with 4.1OS?

Maybe a simple app can be programmed and loaded onto the device to auto prune old messages?

Honestly, I don't know ... the Policy Reference Guide doesn't provide any further detail. I'd venture a guess to indicate that this is only for BES messages.

No.

Thank you very much for your reply. You are right, I've searched Google for about 6 hours total looking for an answer to that question, and you are right, BES documentation doesn't hint a word in one direction or another. This is very aggravating.

As for the "keep message duration" issue, I will head over to another forum and see if anyone has ever heard of creating an application to do this. From my understanding we can deliver BB applications over the air via BES, and in my opinion that would be just as good as a BES policy.

Thanks again!

Shame that you're leaving ... there are several smart developers here in the Developers Forum that could probably help. That said, I've not heard of an app to do this and venture its more effort than it is worth.

No worry! I was speaking of another section of this forum, not a different website.

This policy is very important to my director, unfortunately because of our carrier, just upgrading to a new phone is not an option at this time.

Aside from that we have a small team of about six C# developers. From my understanding, Java and C# are fairly similar.

I will head over to the developers forum and poke around for some ideas.

I don't know of any BlackBerry that you'd be able to do this with, unfortunately. Good luck!
