I use a very handy handy tool called Query Express right from my PC to connect to the remove SQL BESMgmt database (a monkey I know told me about it).

Then I just run a script against the BESMgmt database with the following parameters:

select
DisplayName,
ModelName,
PhoneNumber,
PIN,
IMEI,
AppsVer,
PhoneNumber,
ITPolicyName,
HomeNetwork
from vHandheldSummaryInfo

Works like a charm and can be exported to Excel. Here is a link about Query Express: Download Query Express

BlackberryReports by Big Phil will do this without having to code SQL query. As well BerryStats so you can get the reporting aspect to the people who care about it and can run reports to their hearts content.

I also belive the basic BES exports will provide that info.

Does anyone have any information on their experiences with SQL Reporting and the BES? I'm wondering if it's ok to use the BES DB for querying purposes or for SQL reporting (services as well) or if it's recommended that you do not run quieries against the BES DB and rather export the data and then execute against that table.

... its fine. Read all you want from the BES Configuration Database ... I'd recommend against writing to it however.
