Default BES upgrade/migration fallback plan?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 4.0 server that I need to upgrade to 4.1.5 to be able to do a knife edge migration over to a new machine running 4.1.5. I've got the new machine running a trial SRP that I used during the setup - I'll replace it with the production one (the upgrade one) when I've finished moving.

As a fallback plan I'm backing up the old configuration DB (MSDE on the same machine) as well as taking a backup of the server itself. If the upgrade to 4.1.5 fails or the knife edge migration, I should be able to restore the machine & db and bring the server up in its current shape.

Two questions:

1. Will I run into problems if it comes to restoring a backup of the server and database? (reactivate devices... etc.)

2. What is the correct upgrade path from 4.0 to 4.1.5?

And last, am I in some going the wrong way about this, all comments appretiated.
