Smile BES Server Backup

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I have the latest BES running on a separate server to my normal backup server (Backup Exec 12 with remote agent installed on the BES). What should I be backing up on the BES Server?

It depends ... are you using Exchange? Perhaps Domino? Maybe you're even using GroupWise. Perhaps you're running in a virtual environment, maybe you've got a local MSDE installation ... who knows, maybe SQL 2005 locally on the BES.

Unfortunately you haven't provided any of this information, or really any information about your configuration except for the fact that you're running "the latest BES". I doubt you're running the latest BES; perhaps the latest GA version.

Provide some details if you want assistance.

Start with:

Messaging Platform
Database Server Platform
Database Server locally / remote

Searching the links in my signature might help you too; ya know, in case you didn't want to provide any more info.

Sorry for that hdawg.

Messaging Platform - Exchange 2003 SP2
Database Server Platform - MSDE
Database Server locally
Blackberry Manager - 4.1.4.15 (downloaded and installed 2 weeks ago)

What's GA (sorry new to Blackberry and still learning)?

Thanks
Tony

GA = General Availability

Newest version of BES is 4.1 SP5

The most important things to back up are:

1) Exchange mailbox stores (probably doing this already)
2) BESMgmt database (script I created to automate this ... then you can just back it up using a standard file agent)

In addition, I'd back up C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server (and all its sub-folders) and also C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion (or wheverever you installed BES to).

Lastly, grab a system state backup; which'll include the registry.

I'll say you're welcome only after you have it successfully implemented. Post back with any issues; backup with BES really is critical

Good luck.

Using BE 10D

I use the SQL agent to backup the MSDE and Remote server agent for the whole BES server minus the logs and swap file.
