Default Odd synch issue

Please Login to Remove!

Device is AT&T 8300 running v4.2.2.166, platform 2.4.0.73, using hosted Exchange.

After a recent trial attempt to synch using PocketMac, I restored the device, did an enterprise activation and returned to Exchange. All synching is working fine (notes, contacts, tasks), with one exception...mail. It appears I'm only synching one way. Mail arrives on the device and Exchange at virtually the same time. I can delete a message on the device and very shortly thereafter, the message is deleted on Exchange. However, if I delete a message from Exchange using any client (Outlook, MacMail, Entourage, OWA), it does not disappear from the device...which is correct...but if I then do a reconcile from the device, it SHOULD disappear, but does not. This behavior didn't occur before I had to do the last enterprise activation. I've gone through the device settings a dozen times and find nothing wrong. I've resent the Exchange service books and done battery pulls. The only thing I haven't tried is another enterprise activation. Nothing else I've tried will get me back to the previous behavior. It's a real pain having to delete a ton of messages after I've already done that in a client.

I'm stumped! Any ideas would be most appreciated.

TIA

Huh? It should ... not immediately; I guess that was what you were saying.

Are you doing hard deletes?

Yes, hard deletes. Previously the message would disappear from the device shortly after deleting the message with a client (within 5 minutes as I recall), but would disappear virtually immediately if I initiated a reconcile from the device. Now they only disappear if I manually remove them. At first I suspected the clients were not synching regularly with Exchange or were not doing hard deletes...that's when I started testing with OWA to eliminate any possible odd synching behavior in the clients.

Try restarting the BES (or just the dispatcher service) to flush out the hard delete cache. I'm assuming these are new messages; ones that are still within the threshold of the cache itself ...

This has been going on for about three weeks now. I would assume the cache has turned over numerous times since the problem started.

Keep in mind, I'm on a hosted Exchange service...that is, I'm buying my Exchange services. I've called the host's support and they had no ideas...and I probably would not get a positive response if I suggested they restart the BES or Dispatcher service.

I'm wondering if I should do a wipe and another enterprise activation? Although, this sure sounds like a server side issue...

Hi
Not sure if this is still a problem, but the device checks your deleted items folder in exchange to see what to delete on the device - if you have cleared your deleted items folder (often a default when closing outlook) and not done a 'reconcile now', on your device, it will leave the mail on your device.
If in doubt i always do a 'reconcile now'.

I should have posted a follow up to this several weeks ago. I've since done another enterprise activation which solved the problem. Still not sure what was wrong though.
