Default Devices and Remote BB Manager - 08-12-2005, 02:13 PM

Running BES 4.0 sp1 for GroupWise
All handhelds have 4.0

Physical BES server is at colocation several miles away. I have the Blackberry Manager installed on my computer so I can do remote administration. I also have the Desktop Manager installed.

with this setup can I do either of the following and if so how?

1. Still do an activation via my computer instead of a wireless one with this setup.

2. Add devices that are not being used to the BES but not associate them with a user for tracking/inventory/control purposes

1. Yes, so long as your workstation is listed as a trusted app with your groupwise system. Otherwise you will have to create the account and setup the address book remoted into BES, then actually activate from the remote workstation.

2. No, blackberries must be associated with a user account to activate. Best bet would be to create some disposable accounts to link it to that won't see any traffic, and just activate them on that.
