Hi new to BES Admin

We have a 10 pack licenses for 9 users on our BES. We use Verizon wireless as our carrier. The company uses the 8800 series company wide. We now have idividuals who have purchased their own Blackberry devices ie BB curve with a different carrier, what would it take in order for us to manage these individuals? Would you recommend opening the door to this type of setup?

BES is carrier independent. You can mix & match all you want.

No, I do NOT recommend allowing personal devices to be attached to a corporate BES.
There have been many discussions on the pros and cons of allowing it, and in my opinion, the cons have always outweighed the pros.

Please I am looking for the CONS on why not to mix and match personal and business devices on our BES, can you point out some of these discussions?

Do some searching and read through the posts in the BES Admin forum area.
A little legwork and due diligence is required on your part and ultimately you're going to need to make your own decision on this.

Snap, I agree with Penguin3107.

That is mainly because my IT Policies lock out personal email, IM, browsing, etc. So, a personal device on my BES would lose all of it's personal functionality! Plus, the company here likes total control, i.e. we change the policy, users have to deal with it. I am not making a rod for my own back by engineering a solution where they can moan "well this used to work, why did you change it?" We also want control over devices, networks, tarriffs, etc - so it is company BB or nothing.

Agreed again. Do a search on the "BES Admin Corner" for "personal device" - you'll get lots of threads where this has been discussed, such as Company vs User Owned Devices
