We have a very small office and run one server for exchange BES DNS DHCP and as our gateway and VPN.

We had anissue recently with web site usage by emplyees and started looking for a solution.. It was advised i try websense. I got them on the phone and they assisted with the install. They did have to load a newer version of SQL on the server to get it to run properly (Not sure if its related but thought i might add that tidbit of info).

Ever since then i have been getting errrors in my event log and the BES wont turn on.. I think im gonna end up calling RIM but i wanted to get your input before i renewed our service contract.


First error : Event ID 7009 Timeout waiting for the intel PDS service to connect. (According to MS i needed to increase the time out; increased to 120000 ms)

Second error: Event ID 7024 Black berry dispatcher service terminated with service specific error 5608(ox15E8)

Third error: Event ID 7024 Black Berry Policy Service service terminated with service specific error 5003 (0x138B)

Fourth Error: Event ID 7024 Black Berry Synchronization Service service terminated with service specifci error 5201 (0x1451)

These are DB errors. Never ever mess with SQL without backing up your BES DB first.

What version of SQL were you using and what version did you upgrade too?

SQL 2000/MSDE uses different directory structures the SQL 2005. You might want to confirm that you still have the BESmgmt.mdf and ldf files. Run through the Change DB Wizard to pint back to your DB once you have confirmed where the files are.

That should hopefully get you backup and running.

A detailed description of what you did and what you have done to fix this would be helpful.

They lost their dependancy to SQL because the service name changed. Did you try starting the services manually? If not, try it. If it works then just update the registry like the KB says, look in Windows Services and get the correct service name.

It would not start manually.. We only have 5 users. worth it just to uninstall and reload the thing? IS that worth calling RIM or is there a good guide.. We set this thing up almost 2 years ago so i have no idea any more. Why we run BES for 5 users is beyond me but it was demanded that we have it.

Butr i do have all my licenses and EXE so the install should be easy enough as long as i have a decent walk thru.. Just need to add the 5 users back to the BES.

Use the KB I posted, it's still valid. There is more than SQL dependencies to update. Review the article, it's better than reinstalling.

It was a upgrade but uncertain what verisons.. Ill find out.. I'll also check for those files. if i cant find them then thank god i only have 5 users....

You can blow up SQL as long as you backup the DB first. It's good that you only have 5 users though, imagine if you had 500 or 5000.

The KB lists all three errors and services that you are getting on the BES.

I am willing to bet 1 kidney that the KB will fix it if followed properly.

Well i found the DB files and tried the fix suggested but still did not run right. So i blew away the install using this article on clean unistalls (Has all the registry entries)

Then i re-installed the BES gave the new DB a new name and not the default BESmgmt or what ever it was.. Added the users back and they came right back online no fuss no muss.. thanks guys!!!
