Unhappy BES not generating random activation password

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've searched on this, but cannot find any relevant posts. I have just set up a BES and have an issue where the 'Generate and Send Activation Email' sends the messages fine, except that there is no password in message body.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you customized the Activation Email Message at all?

Sounds like you forgot to add the $p in the customized message.
That's the variable for the password.

For example... put this in the customized message:

Your activation password is $p

Yes, I wondered about that possibility, but didn't see any documentation on it. Are there other variables available?

Thanks BTW

Customize the message sent to users in the "Generate and Email Activation Password" task. To specify a message subject, start the first line with a plus "+" sign, and type the subject on that line. If the first line does not begin with "+", the default subject is used, and the text that you specify appears as the message body. Use "$p" as a placeholder for the password, "$n" for the user's name, and "$x" for the time-to-live in hours. If no "$p" appears in the text, the password is appended to the message.

"If no "$p" appears in the text, the password is appended to the message."

I don't think that this is the case as I would not see a password in the message at all.

Is there a placeholder for email address rather than user name?

There is no variable for email address.
The email address to be used is the email address that the message was sent to.

There also seems to be a message character limit. Can anyone confirm this? Any way around it?

Thanks all for your help.

A character limit? What the heck are you putting in this message?!

I've not heard of a character limit, and none is specified in the help window in BES manager. All that is specified is:
"Customize the message sent to users in the "Generate and Email Activation Password" task. If no "$p" appears in the text, the password is appended to the message." (As DarthBBerry has previously indicated.)

Further testing reveals that the last word, regardless of the size of the message, is lopped off in the email. Weird.
