Default Serious Delays During Initial Activation.....

Please Login to Remove!

Hey All, Newbie here.....please be gentle. Here's my dilemma.....I just installed BES on my Exchange 2003 SP1 server yesterday. I was easily able to create the BB user, and add the device for the user. The problem is that it's stuck at 97% for the initial activation. It's not totally hosed up, but it's importing the Contacts at an insanely slow rate, and has yet to complete the activation. I'm thrown off because it went through the first 95% of the activation in about 15 minutes, then literally slowed to a near stop. Granted, this user has over 1800 contacts, it's been in the process of trying to import them for about 20 hours now and the Contacts are only 57% imported. The BB device for the user pops up an error about every hour or so that states: "Uncaught Exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app 57 is not responding. Process Terminated". Meanwhile, I'll watch the BB's activation still progress . The crazy part is that even with the error on the BB device, it continues to try to finish the Contacts import as I see the progress increase about 1% every couple of hours. I'm also seeing BES errors in the Event Viewer that it cannot sync the user. I've read that it normally takes about 45 minutes to activate, but only 57% after 20 hours.....and the errors on both the server and the BB device have me wondering if it's ever going to finish. Any advice as to what else I should be checking for?

On another note, I added my personal BB device and had it running cleanly in about 15 minutes, so I know the software is doing it's job. I only had about 100 contacts and not much mail either. I can send and receive with no issues at all.

Here's the kicker......the user is leaving the country for a month on Wednesday morning. Because of this, I've been hesitant to stop and restart the activation process fearing that I will not have enough time to get him up and running before he leaves. Another quick note....I did confirm that the device is provisioned through Verizon for BES. Thanks in advance for your time and replies.

Hey Dawg, Actually, that's how I initially added the device to the user. Thanks for the reply.

Option #2 is to disable contact sync for the user during EA, and then enable it after.

I'm not in front of a console right now, but when you add a user to the BES (but before you activate them), you can go to the PIM Sync tab of their BES Account and disable wireless address book / contact list sync.

Thanks Dawg, I appreciate your help. So, you're suggesting that I kill the current activation, disable contact sync, then try the the EA again.....correct?

Yes, I would also wipe the device prior to re-ea'ing.

If I cancel the activation that's taking place now, will the Contacts that have imported so far be there, or will it simply undo any changes that have taken place so far?

If you cancel the ones there will stay.

When you wipe, they will be removed.
