Default Duplicate Calendar Items on 8130s after Mailbox Moved (from E2K to E2K7)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

When I moved my first five BB enabled mailboxes from our Exchange 2000 server to our new Exchange 2007 server, all was good with the Blackberries at first. Email, calendar, tasks, adddress book entries all sync'd just fine.

However, after a short while all three BB 8130s started to show duplicate calendar items, while the other two BB devices (models 8830 and 7130) did not have that issue. By duplicate items, I mean all pre-exsisting meetings where all of a sudden duplicated on the BB 8130s, while all was OK in Outlook.

We had verified, with RIM support, that our BES version, CDO.dll, and MAPI32.dll were OK for Exchange 2007 ahead of time. I actually just called RIM support on this issue, and they stated that since only the 8130s are affected, that its not the BES. I ended up wiping and reactivating the 8130s and that took care of those. Problem is I have a good amount more to deal with..

Anyone else seen this kind of thing?

Thanks!

Do the users of the 8130's use Desktop Manager at all? Do they have multiple calendars setup? (I forget if this was introduced with 4.3 or 4.5 ...)

No users have Desktop Manager. We do it all wirelessly.

Also, only one calender, that being the one from Exchange.

Thanks

The only thing I have seen remotely close to this is: KB15629 - Duplicate calendar appointments in Microsoft Outlook ... but it applies to Exchange 2003; I'm guessing possibly 2007 also. Which CDO.dll are you using? Which version of BES?

I'm running BES 4.1.4.16 with CDO v6.5.7651.61 and MAPI32 v6.5.7638.1(ESM 2003 SP2 w/ DST 2007 Patch). The wierd (but good I guess) thing with my issue is that it only affects the calendar on the 8130s, not Outlook/Exchange 2007 calendars.

RIM support just sent me off on a wild goose chase. Four calls, four different suggestions. I ended up going with one's guys suggestion to upgrade to MAPI32/CDO v1.2.1, as it would install the latest version of MAPI32 which his technical lead stated would resolve this issue with 8130s moved to Exchange 2007. My attempt died when I could not completely uninstall the Exchange 2003 Server app (really just Management tools) via Add/Remove. Subsequently, MAPI32/CDO v1.2.1 would not install as it still saw remnants of Exchange 2003 on the BES. Had to re-install the previous verisions of MAPI32 and CDO to get BES back in action for now, and will do more battle with RIM tech support tomorrow.

OK, so I see others having the same issue of the duplicate calendar items on a BB 8100.

I'm starting to wonder if its more related to a bug on the 8130s that shows up when the mailbox is moved. Maybe nothing to do with Exchange 2007..

Perhaps it is an issue with the HH OS, but I've not heard of / seen this. What HH OS is on the 8130's being used?

I guess the only thing I would recommend would be trying this out:

We have the same issue with users going from Ex2K3 SP2, to Ex2K7 with the Verizon 8130, when I called RIM last week they told me this is a known issue, and they will be looking to correct it with a MR for 4.1.5 which I am still waiting for. Another work around instead of wiping and reactivating is to delete the CICAL service book then push the service books from the BES, this is working for us. . .

Hey Chubbs,

Thanks for the feedback.

After I deleted CICAL on the 8130, the duplicate meetings were gone. However, I had no luck getting the 8130 calendar to sync with the Exchange cal after resending the services book from the BES. Even tried a hard reset on teh 8130, and no difference. On the 8130, I see one calendar call "desktop" in Calendar options with 0 entires, but looking at the 8130 calendar GUI directly I see all the original meetings (minus the duplicates). I wonder if I'm missing something in my CICAL delete process??

Thanks

Hmmm...
