Question Issues moving handhelds from one BES environment to another - 07-21-2008, 08:17 AM

Guys,

We have a group of folks migrating from another company to our company. Their BES installation is at 4.1.4, while ours is 4.0.6 currently. I just got involved with this particular BES setup and plan to take it to SP7 and then upgrade to v4.1, but that can't happen immediately here.

The issues is that they will wipe their handheld and begin the activation process. It will get to starting message pre-population and then stop. I used the EA Status util and they consistently get to "Step08a,AGENT- Message pre-population has been triggered". Then nothing else.

We then set the activation password again and they go through. So it takes 2 attempts (longer of course for the few that forget to wipe the device or typo their fairly new to them email address). During this time we can activate new Blackberry handhelds, or do reactivations of existing without any issues what so ever.

This is the first time I have been involved with migrating people from a newer BES enviroment to an older one. Is this a common issues that they are going to have to live with or should I be looking elsewhere? Once they are finally activated they have no issues.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What happens if you disable th prepopulation and do the EA? Since this is a new email address, they probably don't have any emails anyway.

BES 4.1.5
Exchange 2003 SP1

Well it is fairly new, but a day or more goes by from when they are setup until they are activating. So most do have some mail. This group gets tons of email and some have already complained about our limits.

I did try this on one before though and it just stopped on:

Step09,AGENT- The Wireless Calendar Slow-Sync request has been received from the BlackBerry device

Nothing more.
