Default unable to install Blackberry manager - 07-22-2008, 04:59 AM

hello all, had a quick search in and out of forum, but no joy, so.....

I'm trying to install Blackberry Manager on my pc, but on running the install (the full one for 4.1.1, which I intend on then running the sp5 upgrader with), I don't get the option to install manager, just a few server components like the mds and such. I've had a dig trough the registry and cleaned out all things RIM and BB related but still no joy. Has anyone faced this and fixed it? It's a pain having to rdp to the server to do admin...

Any ideas people?

Ta,

R

I'm a Domino shop, and the only time I've seen this problem is when the Admin didn't have a working version of the Lotus Notes client locally. I'm assuming that since the installer didn't see the Notes client, it assumed that the BlackBerry Manager couldn't be installed. Also if your BES is already SP5, I think you need to use the Full Installer for 4.1.5 to do the BlackBerry Manager install, as you won't be able to upgrade it since you can't complete the first install. I often have this issue after I upgrade the BES server, everyone whose got the BlackBerry Manager already can use the upgrader, while a new install required me to give them the full install of it, etc.

thanks Richard,

domino shop here too. I'm running R8.0.1 on desktop, so maybe that's the issue. I have a VM with 6.5.5 on, so I'll try there.

Also, I'm sure I'm being a bit dumb, but where can I get the full installers? I only see upgraders available at blackberry.com? Do I have to get them off my SP?

Ta,

R

It is an issue for us as well, running the install routine on a PC with a v8 Client and the option for BB Manager install isn't there. Works just fine with a v7 client on the PC.

In my case I had v7, installed the manager and then upgraded to v8.

BES, 4.1.4 (Bundle 24), was SBE now full BES
Domino v7.0.2

From my past experience, BES installers are made dumb to recognize a specific registry key. It looks for the "Path" and "DataPath" values in this registry key so that it can grab the NOTES.INI later :-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes\7.0

Must be "7.0" and nothing else. Search for the corresponding one for v8.0 and rename to 7.0. Once the BlackBerry Manager is installed, rename back.
