Default Blocking Sites Through Blackberry - 07-22-2008, 10:20 AM

I'm trying to block certain sites for my employer I have set up the the MDS connection pointing at our internal proxy, this proxy uses WebSense to monitor internet activity on our network but this is not blocking the access to the sites through the Blackberry.

Can anyone help ?

Are your BlackBerry devices configured to force all of their web browsing through the MDS browser?

If the device users are using the WAP browser, then they're essentially bypassing MDS altogether.

Are you using HTTP Authentication on the MDS Connection Service?

The BlackBerry devices are all configured to use the MDS only via the policy settings.

Are the users being prompted to enter their credentials into the browser on the handheld?

If you are using a generic account on the Proxy Mappings configuration then you need to ensure that it's that account you are blocking on WebSense and not just the user accounts.

I must admit i do have them both enabled HTTP and a generic logon for the proxy. Although Websense does have a policy set for the generic user and websense also reports that the account is accessing a blocked page but the BB still accesses it.
