Hi all
I installed Exchange and BES and it is working fine.
Just for testing and learning.
After about 2-3 weeks of reading and learning how to install and run those two application and hard work, one question came to my mind today that I could not find the answer nor I found any info on the net so please if you can answer my questrion

What is the difference between using a Regular email (like yahoo or any other) on your Blackberry VS using BES ?

This may be stupid question but please help

Regular mail on your BB is referred to as BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service). The biggest difference is you cannot wirelessly sync the calendar, contacts, tasks, notes, etc.

BES does all of that for you. Totally wireless sync. Plus BES can enforce security on a comporate device, like forcing a password, allowing/disallowing 3rd party apps, etc.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

Also it will allow your company to do enterprise messaging (Sametime, LCS and GW). Also the BES has soemthign called MDSS/MDSIS that no one uses.. But still kinda cool.

Yes. They can use BlackBerry Messenger. Comes with the device OS for the BlackBerry and uses PIN to PIN (BlackBerry to BlackBerry) communication - rather than going thru the email server(s).

Of course, if the IT Policy allows them to, they can also use 3rd party IM applications like Yahoo!, MSN, etc.
