Default BES Domino 4.1.6 - 07-23-2008, 06:58 AM

Hi, I'm running two BES Domino 4.1.6 servers under 7.0.3. Everything seems to be working fine except one thing. Suddenly it seems that the BES process "locks" up. To the point where I can't do a "tell bes quit" or quit out of the server properly without doing an end task, etc. Has anyone encountered this issue?

not yet....
Have you run an nsd and checked what process are causing the trouble? In former versions there is a known problem with hang threads and the nbes task.

Did this just start with 4.1 SP6?

I also discovered after upgrading a few of our servers that RIM hasn't verified 7.03 with BES yet, so I hope they don't give you guff for that.

I was thinking a NSD would not matter as the Domino process isn't locking up at all, the server is still responding, etc. just the nBES process isn't doing anything. I upgraded from 4.1.4 to 4.16, I don't think doing an uninstall of the BES and full reinstall of 4.1.6 would make any difference? Has anyone heard anything other wise? Any suggestions?

you are not alone... we are not 4 people with this problem. Have a look in the BlackBerry Supportforum

That is odd - I've been watching my BES on Domino 8.0.1 for a bit and CPU usage is nominal (around 3-4% total at idle). What I did notice is that nBES uses a huge amount of RAM - 612MB, as compared to the 350MB for nserver (all this for 44 users).

I was able to send them an OS level copy of my mail file with a specific message, and they were able to reproduce my issue, so they created this --> SDR201970

The fix is that I had to turn off the two settings relating to HTML e-mails, kind of sucks as I was running it on our test server under 4.1.5 and never had an issue.

I've been running 4.1.6 on Domino 7.0.2 for 2 days now. I've had to reboot the server twice because of the high cpu usage of NBES.exe.
I have now disabled 'Rich Content' and 'Inline Images'.
We're halfway through the day and all looks well (NBES.exe process stays below 3%).
Im wondering if running the BES on a 64bit OS might be better.
Glad im not the only one having these issues.

I told the guys that I didn't have any issues in test with 4.1.5 and HTML stuff on, etc. but in 4.1.6, almost immediately I can come across this problem. I guess the guy is that they can repeat the problem, and now that they can do that, they can begin to work on a fix. I asked them to create me a hotfix so I can try, we'll see what they do.
