I've seen a few people comment that Windows Server 2008 is not supported, however, I have been unable to find on RIM's site (Public and TSupport) anything whatsoever to support that. Even with the SP6 release notes it states:

Any of the following operating systems:
• Windows® 2000 SP4 Server or Advanced Server
• Windows Server® 2003 or later
• Windows Server 2003 or later (64-bit)
• Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
• Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 (64-bit)
• Windows® Small Business Server 2003 Standard or Premium

I hate that "Or Later" crap, which could just mean service packs... Nor are there any KB articles specificially saying Server 2008 is not supported, like they did when Exchange 2007 was not.

Windows Server® 2003 or later would mean 2008 in my book.
But I am not going to be the first one to try it.

I'm in the midst rebuilding two environments, and it would be nicer to go to the more recent OS, as it might be years before they do anything again...

I'm of the same thought of "or later" but depends on the company, for some it does just mean Service Pack's. Plus I'm finding no articles whatsoever relating to issues with 2008, so it's either working really great, or it's not supported...

there was someone on here right around the time 2008 was launched, and he mentioned he has bes running on it. Best of luck

Umm if you read that thread you will see he is NOT running WS2008. He tried it and it failed. He was trying it with Exchange 2003 though.

If you use Exchange 2007 it may work. I don't think anyone here has tried it though.

umm I was only pointing him to information. I am well aware of that he is not running ws2008 because it fubared his test setup.

considering the date of that article, he was probably using SP4; SP5 and SP6 have now come to light. IF anyone from RIM is listening, can you guys say yeh or nay to running BES 4.1.whatever on Windows 2008? Longhorn has been out for a long while, and RTM has been out for 7 months, businesses are upgrading, need the info...

Maybe it'll work on 2008 now that MAPI/CDO 1.2.1 have been released for 2003/2008.

Just go to microsoft's site and search for "Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1"

Even though this is the same version # as the one that came out in 12/2007, this new package is for Windows Server 2008 too instead of just 2000/2003.

Actually that might not work. I recently setup a Windows 2003 x64 with Exchange and BPS on it and could not get the MAPI interface up and running. Emailed RIM and they said that the latest version of MAPI/CDO doesnt work with BES and he sent me a link for a slightly older version (although still 1.2.1)

In your post before that one you said he was running it. I simply don't want someone think it is doable when it may not be. No one likes wasting their time.

For right now using WS2008 is probably not a good idea for a production server. Maybe for a domain controller or file server. Something which does not require third party software. But not a BES.

If RIM did not list it then it will not be supported.

If you look at the dependencies on a windows 2003 BES on the controller service you will see NT LM Secuirty Support Provider. Vista and Windows 2008 does not have this service so RIM will need to make some changes to get BES working...

Hi all. I'm new to BES. The company where I work is considering deploying BES and ...Ta Daaaaa...I'm the one responsible for getting it working.

Right now we are in the middle of a mass upgrade of a bunch of servers. We are moving to an Exchange 2007 cluster. The cluster consist of two Windows Server 2008 Enterprise boxes, both running Exchange 2007 Enterprise Edition (Piece of crap! Doesn't even work!).

It appears BES is not supported when running on WS2008, but if we install it on a Windows 2003 Standard box, am I correct in assuming that it will talk to our Exchange 2007 cluster? Has anyone tried this?

As long as it's in the same domain, it should work. IT would be pure suicide by microsoft if Server 2003 and server 2008 couldn't talk to eachother.

Well put. I guess what I'm mostly concerned about is weather the Exchange cluster will cause any issues, since we are running in a cluster environment rather than a standalone Exchange server.
