Default Installing SP6 Errors

Please Login to Remove!

Hey,

Just trying to update one of our BES boxes to SP6 (currently v4.1.4.15) but during the DB upgrade we get the following error.

"an attempt to upgrade the database was unsucessful. An error occured while executing an SQL statement"

Installer log shows this,

[30000] (07/30 20:51:11.545):{0x1CA0} SQL being executed:
exec sp_add_jobstep @job_name = 'RIMPurgeHistoryBESMgmt',
@step_id = 1,
@step_name = 'DoIt',
@database_name = 'BESMgmt',
@command = 'exec RemoveOldHistoryRows 60' -- 60 day retention
[20000] (07/30 20:51:11.545):{0x1CA0} [CBESDBInstaller::ExecuteDDL] COM Error 0x80040E14 - IDispatch error #3092 - Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" - Description "There are two or more jobs named 'RIMPurgeHistoryBESMgmt'. Specify @job_id instead of @job_name to uniquely identify the job." Native error = 14293
[20000] (07/30 20:51:11.545):{0x1CA0} [CBESDBInstaller::ExecuteDDL] SQL Error for exec sp_add_jobstep @job_name = 'RIMPurgeHistoryBESMgmt',
@step_id = 1,
@step_name = 'DoIt',
@database_name = 'BESMgmt',
@command = 'exec RemoveOldHistoryRows 60' -- 60 day retention

Anyone seem that before? Or any ideas how to view the jobs in the DB so i can remove the other?

Cheers,

Andy

yup i saw that KB article earlier but i dont have a .bak file in that folder already and i dont get that error in the logs at all.

This page has the suggested fixes in but none seem to work. Problem seems to be caused because the machine has been renamed after it was installed.

Hi,
We had a similar problem, and DocID KB03569 might be a better KB on the Blackberry Tech Support web site (sorry I don't have enough posts yet to include the link in this post).

Your problem sounds like Reason #5 in that article

Raised my arms and legs - agreed with cneumann that KB03569 is the choice.

Look under Cause 5.

pretty sure its the error but fix isn't quite working for me yet.

I have two jobs called 'RIMPurgeHistoryBESMgmt'. I can delete the one, but when i try to delete the other i get

Msg 14274, Level 16, State 1, Server MLSYD1BES001, Procedure sp_delete_job, Line
86
Cannot add, update, or delete a job (or its steps or schedules) that originated
from an MSX server.

If i look at the jobs, its originating_server value is set to the old server name (which no longer exists) which is why i'm guessing i can't remove the job. That articles suggestion is to rename the server back to the old name, remove the job and then rename the server again. Something i'm reluctant to do.

Is there anyway to change the originating_server value with some sql so that i can then remove the job?

all sorted now actually. managed to change the jobs to point back to the proper server name and delete a couple of troublesome jobs and the updates just gone through.

Cheers all!
