Default DNS Question

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys I've been reading these forums for a while and decided it was time to join up. Anyway here's my situation. I am using BES 4.1 and have a policy set to use the Blackberry Browser via Proxy.

On my handheld I'm able to hit an intranet site by IP, but not by DNS name. I have tried accessing the same page on my BES with the DNS name with my service account and I'm successful. What is the disconnect here? If the BES resolves the name shouldn't the handheld?

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forums bbadmin2008!

If you disable the proxy on the BES (for troubleshooting) are you able to use the DNS name?

Thanks ashworth! I did disable the proxy for http:\\ traffic in the MDS-CS options and I'm able to get to my internal site via DNS name. So please forgive my ignorance but what does that mean? Do I need to engage my security team to make a configuration change on my BlueCoat proxy server?

well now we know what where the problem is coming from. I do know that the packet headers are a lot bigger when they come from the MDS-cs service then they would be if they came from IE. I would see if they could do some kind logging on the proxy server to see if they see the request from the BB when you have the proxy informatoin enabled. Also might be time to start to look at packet captures with wireshark.
