Default Can't SMS on BB on BES

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure what is missing here. Thought I may have deleted SMS app from BB (only see MMS in menu's).

When I receive a SMS message from someone and I try to reply I only get the option to MMS the user (phone number). When I do that It appears to send (gives a icon like a sideways transmission tower (((( type thingy then turns to a red x.

Hate texting but now have a need. Any ideas on what is broken here?

Is it possible your company pushed a new IT policy that doesn't allow SMS?

Have you tried a battery pull? (with the BB on)

I'm in control of BES (single user), running on default policy. Not extremely familiar with BES but if SMS is allowed by default it wasn't changed.

Questions:

1. Should I see SMS in my BB menu's? I don't, did I possibly delete the SMS app? Can't remember if it was SMS app or if I deleted a IM client. I starting to think it was an IM client. Is there an SMS app or only MMS?

2. In BES Admin, where do I check to see if SMS is enabled?

What else to check for why I'm getting a red x?

Additional information:

tried battery pull, now testing email as I had a big red x problem with that a while back. (email working)

Red x message sayd "failed to send message" show details gives "unknown sender address"

[edit] Starting to think MMS is a Nextel provisioning issue, will be calling Nextel, will report back on results

I figured I'd update this thread so it may be helpful to someone in the future.

My SMS/MMS probelms were not BES related.

7100i can't do SMS only MMS.

Sprint is now telling me that my SIM card is not MMS capable and need to be a newer series (ending in 330).

My dealer is telling me BB's are not 330 capable, but they will help me get MMS working.

I figure I've got 2 days to screw around with my phone standing in their store, so I'll give it a try. Nothing is ever easy.

Update:

Went into my dealer today and they put a newer SIM in my phone and swapped over the service. Believe it or not, I can now MMS. Sprint support was right (only took 3 phone calls). Hope this tread helps someone.

I was going to ask you who your carrier was. I don't deal much with your carrier and only have a few users on your carrier on our BES. So your issue was a sim card issue. Most of our Nextel uses are using the 7520 or newer 7100.

Most of our users are on AT&T. AT&T has texting is an option and you have to add it to the plan in order for users to be able to text... However, I am not sure how this plays with the native capability of the BB handheld and BES. Texting usually does not work unless it is added. Those users who call us saying they cannot text usually do not have texting added on their plans when we call AT&T and we have to add this. (Texting has to be added in addition to usual Unlimited Data Plan, Voice and nights and weekends)

Thanks for the update...
