Question No 'send' option when replying to e-mail

Please Login to Remove!

We've recently activated a user on our BES, and strangely when he trys to reply to an e-mail, there is no send option.

I've tried re-sending the service books and IT policy, but neither makes any difference.

Anyone got any pearls (pardon the pun) of wisdom for our Pearl user?

Does it show EDGE or GPRS on the BB? Have you contacted the carrier to ensure it has the proper data plan on it?

It shows GPRS. The user can happily send emails, but doesn't seem to have the option to reply to any.

Probably done this - but have you popped the battery out and then back in?

yes lol, usually the first thing I do in such situations.

I bit of googling suggested resending the service books and IT policy but this hasn't helped, imagine I may have to resort to wiping the handheld and re-activating

Probably a bad service book, I would try to re-activate before wiping the handheld.

Send option is missing from the BlackBerry device

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doc ID : KB12489
Last Modified : 2007-04-23
Document Type : Support

Print this page

Environment
BlackBerry® device
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 and later

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem
After the Disable Message Normal Send IT policy is applied on a BlackBerry device running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 or later, the option to send messages is unavailable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cause
On BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 and earlier, the Disable Message Normal Send IT policy is enforced when the BlackBerry Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) Support Package is installed on the BlackBerry device.

With BlackBerry Device Software 4.2, the Disable Message Normal Send policy behavior differs from prior versions. If the Disable Normal Message Send IT policy, found under the Security Policy Group, is set to True, it forces the BlackBerry device to send messages using the BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package. If the package does not exist on the BlackBerry device, the Send option is not available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution
Set the Disable Message Normal Send IT policy to False or install and configure the BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package.

Help! I am not experiencing this with 7 of my users (900 total) all in Northern California and all but one on Verizon. No sending and address book lookups failing when trying to reply to emails. I have checked the setting in the article above and it is not specified (default is false). I found another thread on here saying someone called their carrier and they told them to have IT reset something server side to resolve. Anyone know what that could be? I did notice that all the affected users on Verizon are on one BES. I have recycled the services on this BES as well, have not heard back is this resolved it yet.

I have tried removing and reinserting the battery as well as resending service books (how long does that normally take?). Neither worked.

Exchange 2003
2 Bes 4.1.6.10 servers
900 Users spread between the two.

I had that same problem with one of my users. I wiped the handheld a few times, deleted the user, reactivated. It would work for a little while and as soon as they conected the BB to their DM it would disable the Send option on reply. I had to remove DM and delete the RIM reg key and then reinstall DM to get it to work.

Not sure, but could this be the Exchange/Send As issue when the users are Domain Admins?
