You may have seen my post yesturday about not being able to MMS from my Nextel 7100i BB. I've spoken to tech support and they are telling me that my SIM is not MMS capable (older series) and that I need to get a newer sim. They also had my phone listed as a non BB so it's a wonder that it ever worked at all.

My local dealer is willing to do this work for me (SIM) but I'm wondering what will happen to my BES activation? Will it be wiped for the phone? Should I be ready to totally re-create the BES account?

Just wondering what I'm getting myself into to be able to MMS (SMS). I had resisted texting as I think it's the downfall of our society, but it's time for me to get on the bus. Afterall when your friends will only envite you to the bar with a text message you better get with the program. My buddy told me that his 12yo daughter does 15k messages PER MONTH during the school year and she hit 25k during the summer. He was kinda proud of it. I wonder how many walls she walked into doing it? I've already broken the news to my kids (one is 10), that they won't be seeing a cell phone for quite a while. Problem is, even at 10 most of her friends already have them. Trying not to be the "VCR flashing 12:00" generation.

A new SIM will not break your connection with the BES. The BES uses the PIN of the devices, not the SIM. You will be fine if you change SIM cards.

Won't I lose my enterprise activation when they pull/swap my SIM? Doesn't some part of the BES configuration sit on the sim? Configuration? Email messages? Something?

None of the above.
BES doesn't care about the SIM at all... other than require it to have an Enterprise BlackBerry Data Plan provisioned on it.
Nothing BES related gets stored on it.

just make sure your new sim is properly pervisioned.

Now you've peaked my interest. What exactly is a "Blackberry Enterprise Data plan?" When I first got this blackberry I did not have BES, not even close, as a matter of fact Nextel thought my blackberry was a i950 or something like that, not even a blackberry. What ever data plan I had worked with BES. I believe I had a basic blackberry data plan. Nothing special about Enterprise. Now I'm concerned that they will screw things up by switching the SIM because they'd have to provision the new sim and seeing that they have managed to screw things up every time they touch our phones, I'm beginning to think I should leave this alone until the new blackberry's come out in a year or 2 (grin). Afterall, I can text using the email addy's for the major carriers that I've now made a "note" in my BB.

Guess I should just leave this alone and go find something else to fiddle with.
