New to the forum, and hoping I can get some more insight before the weekend here.

Planning to install Exchange 2007 on a new box, to co-exist with Exchange 2000 temporarily. We're not ready to fully move all mailboxes and functionality over, so we'd prefer to move a bit slower with X2007. Hence the coexistence. I've read some posts and have a feel for what we need to do.

My question is that if we do not move any BES users to X2007, then all BES users should not be impacted, correct? Like I said, we'd prefer to move slow on this, and hoping to break this project into pieces, and the final piece would be utilizing X2007 for all BES users.

Can someone give me some clarification on this?

I'll be watching this, we've got over 1600 people on two BES servers and will be doing a 2003 --> 2007 converstion in the next year. There seems to be some disconnects out there. Some say it works if you uninstall ESM and install CDO 1.2.1, and others say users on 2003 will have calendar sync issues.

If we have to move everyone to one BES server, then setup the other one for 2007 and move users as their mailboxes are moved to 2007, then at the end we can reconfigure the first BES box and split em' up again, that'll be craptastic thing to deal with!

I have never seen anyone go from 2000 -> 2007... but.... I think it *might* work.

Thing to do to make it *maybe* work.

1. Update the MAPI on the BES to be at lease 2003 SP2 +DST patch.
2. Before you move any users to 2007 make sure that your BESAdmin account has the proper Exchange 2007 permissions.
3. Also what version of BES are you running? IF you are running 3.6 you will need to run handheldcleanup -u

OK, so Exchange 2007 is installed. We have non-BES users moved over to the new Exchange box, but the BES users still stuck on the old Exchange box. Yes, I've seen KB's stating that we need to update the MAPI32.dll and cdo.dll, from ExchangeMapiCDo.EXE from M$ website (KB14502). We have NOT done this yet, as we're unsure what effects this will have due to the coexisting environments.

Also, since we want to proceed with extreme caution, where/how do we define the 2nd exchange server, as we'd like to move each BES user one at a time, to make sure we don't break everyone's account all at once. Thanks ya'alls.

BES 4.1.6 on Windows 2003

OK, we've replaced the dlls & mail is flowing to the blackberries and all seems fine...EXCEPT meeting requests. Not receiving meeting requests to the handheld, but does reach outlook. Still researching the issue.
