I just submitted a ticket to RIM on this exact issue and this is the response that they gave me:
Thank you for contacting BlackBerry Customer Support.
When contacts are synchronized from GroupWise which have values in tags which are not available on the BlackBerry Smartphone, the following warning level messages can be logged in the BlackBerry Messaging Agent log, and the Application Event Log:
[20000] (07/28 08:42:27.052):{0xE88} GWXMLData::ContactSyncRecordToXML() Unknown Tag (Birthday)
[20000] (07/28 08:42:27.083):{0xE88} GWXMLData::ContactSyncRecordToXML() Unknown Tag (ChangeKey)
[20000] (07/28 08:42:27.083):{0xE88} GWXMLData::ContactSyncRecordToXML() Unknown Tag (Department)
These log lines are for informational purposes only and do not indicate an actual issue with the Address Book. This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
In order to work around this issue in the meantime, I would recommend turning down the logging level of the Messaging Agent. Here is an article that can assist you with turning down the logging level:
