Recently we upgraded a bunch of 8700's and 8800's to 8310's. Most of them are running 4.5.0.55, a couple are running .69. Both of the models are reporting "hour glass is popping up a lot." They know that they can pull the battery but they are looking for an alternative. I was looking around in the BES and found a policy for "memory cleaner when idle and holstered."

Should I enable this? Will it help? is it even a memory leak? If I should turn it on, are there any downsides?

4.5 is still in beta. You should NEVER EVER give beta software to normal users. You are looking for trouble if you do. Put them on 4.2.2 until 4.5 is officially released. There is a reason these versions were not released officially.

4.5.0.55 is official for 8310

official on a european carrier .. at&t isn't releasing their updates until mid sept.

I am running the same code and see the hour glass behavior often and have to do the battery reboot procedure.

I have to agree that this is just a support nightmare to release too many into the "wild" .. a few testers sure .. for deployement? never.

You need to brush up on your OS releases. There are many models that now have a 4.5 release that is out of beta.

I was able to correlate my hour glassing to the media card. If any of your folks that you've upgraded to 4.5 are using media cards, it is recommended that you re-format the media card once @ 4.5. Obviously you'd want to back up the contents first. You should also delete the BB thumbnails that were built in the images folders. That seems to cause some issues.

But not on AT&T branded devices.
Putting 4.5 into a production environment on AT&T devices is a bad idea in my opinion.
