Default Outlook and Blackberry Syncing

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched and read a few different threads on this, but I couldn't get my answer that I was looking for.

We have BES 4.1 and Exchange 2003.

When you delete a message off of the Blackberry device, is it supposed to delete out of the Outlook Inbox as well?

I have a lot of users complaining that it doesn't, and I see that it doesn't when I do it. I thought it did, but everyone I ask says it does not.

Thoughts?

It will and happens fairly quickly when going BB ---> Outlook.

Are the BB configured to do Delete On - Mailbox & Handheld?

It deletes just fine BB ---> Outloook

It's Outlook ---> BB that doesn't sync..

I guess I should have been more specific

we have the same config here (Ex2003 / BES 4.1.5) and it works fine. the only way it wont sync is if you are deleting emails permanently (SHIFT+Del). As log as the email goes into the deleted items when deleted from OL, it should sync fine.

Have you checked the logs ?, if you are doing a normal deletion

Hmm.. yeah, we delete emails normally.

I know some users use cached mode on their Laptops.. I have been told that will screw up synchronization.. Is that correct?

I have not checked the logs, what log in particular should I look at. I'm fairly new to the BES world.

Yeah cached mode doesn't sync properly.

Keep in mind the BES agent needs to see the email so it can act on it .. I often see users exit and delete their deleted folder and the BES won't know where the email went so it becomes an orphan.

Outlook ---> BB takes up to 20 mins. I find it useful to do this test:

Verify the BB is configured to delete on - Mailbox & handheld

Send yourself 2 emails

Delete - BB
Delete - Outlook

Wait for them to deliver to both mailbox and BB.

Now delete - BB on Blackberry and watch outlook, it should take a min or two. and move to deleted in Outlook

Now delete - Outlook in Outlook and on the Blackberry Reconcile now. The message should delete off Blackberry

If that works .. it's working as it should and your dealing with a user workflow issue. I find it helpful to turn off Empty delete folder on exit.

All of our clients use cached mode and they all empty deleted items on exit.

No problems

I did the Outlook and BB test, and they both seemed to delete off of each other.

We do use Empty Recycle Bin on exit.

I wonder if it's just a timing thing. How long should the 2 take to sync back and forth.

Ok .. I should have added this part:

On your BES check what you have set for:

Hard Deletes Reconcilation
Message State Database Size

Right click on your BES instance, Messaging

Both are related to delete messages and BES being able to track. I have my MSDB at 300.

Again .. Outlook ---> BB sync takes up to 20 mins unless you force with Reconcile Now.

I have the same problem....BB to Outlook deletes fine, but Outlook to BB never deletes. I'm using Gmail and have IMAP enabled. Any thoughts?
