Default Data Usage Spike on BB 8100

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I hope someone is able to assist. We run a BES 4.1.6 server with a number of BB users. All of our tariffs include 6MB of traffic which has serviced us well up until now. Basically one user, in the space of a month and a half, has managed to rack up around 150MB worth of usage. They maintain that they have not altered their use of the BB at all and only use it for work email (no Internet browsing etc). This additional data has of course cost us quite a bit.

I'm now looking into identifying where this mystery data has come from. I've collated the log data (*MAGT* and *DISP* files) between the dates in question and run the HistoricalStats.exe tool from the Blackberry Resource Kit which has produced the following;

Server: SERVER
User: user@domain
Disp name: user
DeviceID: 0000838052
SRPid: S12345678
Message TO: 2320
Message FROM: 36
Replied/Forwarded FROM: 33
Attachment requests: 0
OTAFM TO: 1059
OTAFM FROM: 292
CICAL TO (in bytes): 170784
CICAL FROM (in bytes):
CMIME TO (in bytes): 158160274
CMIME FROM (in bytes):
MDS TO (in bytes): 19985
MDS FROM (in bytes):
OTASYNC TO (in bytes):
OTASYNC FROM (in bytes):
Agent ID: 1

The important bit is the CMIME TO value (over 150MB), the question is though what the CMIME traffic is made up of (none of our other BB users have gone over 3MB for this value). Can anyone offer advise what sort of activities on the BB would cause this figure to shoot up or if there are any other avenues I can explore?

Many thanks indeed,

Zinc

P.S - Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
