No, you can't control those settings. Nor should you, in my opinion.
Managing email messages is something that should be left up to the user... not the admin.

Dangerouse statement!! users having control over their own BB's!! (joke!)
I get calls all day long from users who can't figure out why they del emails from their desktop and they still show on their BB. I'd find it usefull to have the option to set these, even if you left it open for the user to change them back.

I invite you to spend one day at our helpdesk. I'm sure it might influence your opinion.
I'm not trying to argue with you.
It is what it is... you can't control those setting from BES via IT Policy.
What you call a shame, I call sensible.
If you think RIM should build this functionality in, send them a suggestion:
I'll stick with managing my own helpdesk, thanks.
Educate your users, and your helpdesk calls will decrease.
x2
I have plenty of users who do not want their devices to stay in sync with their Outlook account (for whatever reason). They read stuff on their BB and then delete it - and don't want the message deleted from Outlook.
Personally, I wouldn't want to manage this from a BES perspective. Blech.
