"Wireless Calendar" only certain devices? Hi Folks, When I compare features of Blackberry devices on Blackberry's website, I notice that only some devices have the "Wireless Calendar" feature. For example, on the following comparison: 8700c - YES 8705g - YES 8820 - NO 8320 - NO Bold - NO Here's the link to the comparison on their website I was viewing: | V BlackBerry - BlackBerry | Wireless Handheld Devices, Software & Services from Research In Motion (RIM) This leads me to ask myself: "What exactly is 'Wireless Calendar'"? It surely couldn't mean that only a few Blackberry devices can sync their Exch/Outlook calendars via BES, could it? I thought that pretty much any BB device could do that. Technically speaking, when a BB sync's with Exch/Outlook via BES, isn't it really just an email? I mean to say, that even when an appointment (calendar) is being sync'd, the actual mechanism is that an email is being sent from the BB to the BES (or vice versa), right? So wouldn't the feature "Wireless Email" really be the only thing needed to sync calendars via BES? (Pretty much all of the BB devices have that feature, right)? Much thanks if anyone can shed some light :) (I'm not a BES guy, so kindergarten terms would be a bonus. But any thoughts would be appreciated). |
device.xml out of date? https://www.blackberry.com/Desktop/D...XML/Device.xml right click save target as replace your current device.xml file on the BES with this one. I will see if I can locate JIBI's. |
Hi Knottyrope, Thanks very much for your reply. I should have clarified: Fortunately, my BB device (8700c) is sync'ing fine and dandy (both Calendar and Email) with my Exchange (via BES). I'm just confused about what I read on Blackberry's comparison chart. I just want to know what it really means if a device has the "Wireless Calendar" feature (if it means anything at all). Also, I want to know if other devices, like 8820, 8320, Bold, etc. will calendar-sync with Exchange via BES. I almost feel stupid asking this, because wouldn't it be insane if they didn't? Thanks again :) |
If you device xml is out of date it might not work. What version BES do you have? |

I'll definitely keep it in mind if we start adding devices and they don't sync right. |

That certainly makes a lot more sense than what the feature-comparison-chart lead me to believe. Thanks a lot :) |
P.S. I hope you all will forgive me for getting off topic, but I've just gotta ask... Is that 9000 as awesome as it looks? Camera, GPS receiver, and wi-fi. I don't think there are any other BB's which have all three of those features, are there? (If I'm not mistaken the 8820 has a GPS receiver and wi-fi, but not a camera). But holy cow, the price! ~$800? Did your service provider at least give you a nice discount for a contract? Also, is the screen really as good as they say? Just curious. I don't think they sell them in the U.S. yet. |
the 8830, 8110 and a few others have all 3, the extra special thing you get with the Bold is 3G, which no other BB offers! |

The only currently available BlackBerry that has all three (Camera, GPS and WiFi) is the Bold. The 8830 doesn't have a camera or WiFi. The 8110 doesn't have WiFi. The few others you mention would also be lacking something. All of the CDMA BlackBerry devices (7250, 7130e, 8703e, 8130, 8330 and 8830) are all 3G, but none have WiFi. |
Would it be safe to say that the Bold truly is the only GSM-side 3G Blackberry? (UMTS, HSDPA) |
