Default BES SP Upgrade roll-back plan?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I'm planning to upgrade my BES 4.1.2 to SP6+MR1. Let say that I have my BES database backed up before the upgrade. For whatever reason, if I need to roll-back to 4.1.2, what options do I have?

You restore the DB and reinstall previous BES version.

So, you can't uninstall SP6+MR1? if something screws up, you pretty much have to do a reinstallation of the previous version of BES?

Another question - even if I reinstall the previous version of BES and restore the database from backup. Do the Blackberry devices need to do enterprise activation?

Thumbs up

Well my plan is to create a sandbox of virtual machines so I can at least run through the process and document it properly.

As people here have suggested I think the best way back is to restore the DB and restore previous version of bes. If you are running raid1 on your BES servers system disks it's a good idea to pull one of the disks which allows you to quickly revert the BES servers to previous config. That way your only delay is restoring the database, which you could actually do pretty quickly if you had things setup correctly.

If you'll run your BES server on VMWare, you can make a snapshot of the BES server before installing the service pack. Been bit by that once before and it's nice to have it on a VM where you can snapshot the system before you install a service pack.
