Default Can you synchronize additional Domino address books with BB address book?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of switching my company's Treo users to Blackberry devices, and synchronizing them with our Lotus Domino server using BES or BPS.

However, there's one question I can't seem to answer from all of the documentation and discussion I've read:

Can you use BES or BPS to synchronize "additional" address books into the Blackberry's native address book application?

We are a construction company with a large database of subcontractors. At the moment, all of my Treo users have all of the contacts from their personal address book AND the separate, shared subcontractor database on their devices. They use these subcontractor contact records more for the phone numbers than for e-mail.

From what I've read, it sounds like BES will do e-mail lookups in secondary Domino address books, but I haven't seen any references to being able to include such contacts in the BB address book at all times.

Any thoughts on whether or not this will work, or how to make it work, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It won't work natively.

BES synchs whatever DB is listed in the users "Personal Address Book" field on their account on BES. So if you point this at a shared address book, it won't synch their own.

The lookup always points at the names.nsf of the server (i.e. org Domino Directory)

YOUR ONLY CHANCE of making things work how you want is a lot of fiddling about with many EDCs. I listed it in a previous thread, will see if I can find it.

Thanks, Jadey. That's what I was afraid of.

I think my post about EDCs is in this thread
Address Book for corporate contacts

It would put a LOT of overhead on servers, but it would in theory work
