Default SIM ID not being reported

Please Login to Remove!

As part of our DR solution, we need an "alternative" way of alerting all users on our BES if there is a network outage & we can't connect to our BES.

It's been suggested by our network carrier, O2 UK, that if we give them a list of the SIM IDs of all users on our BES, they can send a message on our behalf via SMS.

Therefore we need to be able to export a list of the names & corresponding SIM ID of all 376 users on our BES v4.1.5.26 Domino 7.0.2FP2 server.

I have just discovered that 183 out of 376 users on BES have the SIM ID number in the SIM ID column, and 193 have no SIM ID number.

I have found out from O2 UK that there are apparently "issues" with the BES either not reporting the SIM ID or incorrectly reporting the SIM ID if the BB OS is less than v4.2.2.

I was then advised by O2 UK that we'd need to recall all 193 pre-v4.2.2 OS BB's & manually upgrade them. These BBs are all over the world & to recall them etc would be a logistical & resource nightmare which we can't do at the moment. It's such a shame that currently OTA OS upgrades aren't possible

What puzzles me (and O2 UK!) is that this issue also happens on 83xx series BB's on our BES with OS v4.2.2 and higher, and also on several Bolds with OS v4.6.0.134

Another issue is that on the BES, the SIM ID column is not present in the exported statistics or asset summary even though this column is visible in the Users window of the BES!

Has anyone come across these issues before? If you have, how were you able to resolve them?

Thanks in advance.

RIM TSupport built an app that fixed this. If you have TSupport you should request the SyncRequest tool.

sferical - thanks for the fast response.

We don't have TSupport, but I will ask O2 UK if they can pass on the SyncRequest tool as if it enables SIM IDs to be reported for pre-OS v4.2.2 BB's then its a much more attractive solution from my perspective compared to recalling 193 BB's to do an OS upgrade.

That still leaves the question about why the BES asset or statistics export doesn't have the SIM ID column as this is required. Do you have any idea how can I export that data? I've searched this forum but have not come across any solutions as of yet.

Yes, the delete / undelete of the Sync servicebook sometimes works but isn't manageable in an environment with 100's or 1000's of users. Hence RIM's new tool created by DART.

Interesting, do you have any documentation on it?

Sorry I don't. It was created to fix the issue for one of RIM's biggest customers. Not sure if it will be released for public consumption.

Maybe in the next brk??

Default SyncRequest

"SyncRequest" is in the BlackBerry Resource Kit for BESrk4.1.6 which can be downloaded from the BlackBerry site.

Included in the rk is the documentation which has some examples but not the SIM ID it will be in one of the databases.

It also says this tool should be used with care becasue of the load it puts on the BES. I haven't tried the tool yet, I will wait for a quite time, Christmas Day ? perhaps not.

Just checked mine, we are O2 as well and everything is reporting back with the exception of a Nokia E91. That includes an 8700 on 4.1
