Hi Everybody,

I have one BlackBerry server with 80 users with 1GB of Ram. But day by day the memory utilization is going to high like 68%, 73%, 76%, 79%, 81%, 83%, 87%. Now at present the memory utilisation is 89%. The BlackBerry recomended that for 500 users 1.5GB RAM. But we have only 80 users in our BB server.


One more thing is that we have SQL server is also installed in the same BB server, this SQL server is only utilising 267MB of RAM. Can we install the SQL server in the another system?

Can any body help me out in this Regards.
I will appreciate your kind help at the earliest.

This is a BES Admin issue, not a Developer issue. Moving this message.

Open Windows 2000/2003/XP Task Manager on that BlackBerry server and find the culprit. Use the "Processes" tab, and choose View->Select Columns, display these columns:

Mem Usage
Peak Mem Usage
VM Size

And monitor which application is gobbling up the memory.

Also, don't forget to install all BES service packs if you are using an earlier version of BES 4.0.

To be realistic, minimum or even recommended minimums are there to present you with a least-cost picture. Honda recommends that I have my Accord's oil changed once every year or 10,000 miles. Realistically, I'm going to have my oil changed once every 3,000-4,000 miles or 3-3.5 months. Just because they can give you a least-cost upkeep does not mean that its the real world recommended minimum.

I have 2GB of RAM in a server thats running 55 users. If I ever get to the point of having memory issues, then I'd look at possibly separating off the Attachment Server, if thats the culprit - this can be a huge memory hog at time, and luckily with BES 4.0, you are able to put it on a remote server...

...but with that said, it leads me to believe that the following is your problem.

RIM's suggested system minimums does not include the SQL server as part of the configuration. Even with 90'ish users like your server, having the extra SQL load on there is murder for a machine with only 1GB of physical memory. I would suggest 2-4GB of RAM on a single server, even with that load.

...and MDS has a memory leak, as well. although i haven't ever noticed it affect anything outside of the BMDS process (not the system as a whole). the new HF1 and HF2 for 4.0 SP2 address this issue, though... i haven't notice it again since applying the hotfixes.

but i'd still not suggest a 90-person BES w/ a localized SQL 2000 database and only 1GB of RAM. thats just begging for troubles.

We have a blackberry server running under Domino and SQL 8 running on the same machine and we have 3 gig of ram and we have problem with memory. Recommandation from RIM was that SQL should be install on a different server.

We have open a ticket both with RIM and Microsoft to see if there is known issue. I know that RIM did not recommend at first that we have SQL and BES on the same server but with server specification that we provide, they finally told us it was OK. But it seems they were wrong. Anyone else have that setting and same problem?
