Lightbulb Wireless application installation

Does any one know if RIM is going to be able to push out handheld updates wirelessly? I work for a county government who has gone completely wireless and has removed all of the desktop software. This is great until you need to get the units software upgraded. Any suggestions?

It just makes it extremely difficult because they have decided to go this route with the devices. Im not sure I would have if given the choice. There are many down sides to it.

You do not need the DM to upgrade the handheld OS. You can launch the "loader" executable that comes with every handheld OS to do the updgrade. We keep all of the most up-to-date software installed in one place (we just use a spare PC) and if we need to upgrade handheld software, we just send an email with a link to the loader.

You don't need DM, but you must cradle - in any event - to load a new OS. Given that the latest version is 30MB, I am wondering how they could do an OTA upgrade!

If they do ever do the software upgrade wirelessly, I think they could do one module at a time. That would certainly eliminate the need to download 30mb. I agree that is a heck of a lot of info.

So if we sent the new software application we do not need to have DM installed?? Please explain..

Maybe I misunderstood...I thought the original topic changed into "Do I need to have the DM installed to upgrade handhelds?" The answer to that would be no (if you use the loader), but that doesn't say anything about whether or not OS updates will happen over the air in the future.
