Default Installing programs from bes

Please Login to Remove!

I would like to install bblight and some other programs on all of my bb's(10 total) from the bes server. Is this possible and if so how? I searched but could not find the answer.

Thanks

I think the best you can do is have the user's OTA the install. You may be able to use a channel push to send out the URL for the download, but you can't force the app on. With MDS studio, you can push apps down to the handhelds, but only those that have been developed in MDS Studio.

cd.

That's exactly what you want. The docs are a bit round-about, but once you get everything in the right place and remember to run 'loader.exe /index' to generate the necessary files, you'll be on your way.

We've had really mixed results so far, but have successfully deployed several different apps to a few users.

The documentation is very convoluted.
Anybody care to do a quick-start on setting up BES to distribute an application to Handhelds?

Default Handheld Management Guide

Download and read the Handheld Management Guide version 4.0.2. It's all in there my brother.

This is a slick functionality. It doesn't compare to Good's OTA push for OS software (or so I've read), but it's a drastic improvement over forcing every user to install all the software themselves and upgrade the handheld using Desktop Manager.

For this current round of handheld software push, I'm planning to use SMS to push out a silent installation of the latest BlackBerry Desktop Manager and then have users launch a shortcut to loader.exe which is on a software distribution server.

1) Have user connect handheld
2) Have user launch upgrade program
3) Click next a few times and wait for the handheld to upgrade and activate itself (It may require you to turn the radio on while it's still connected via USB). All the default software modules are pre-selected by editing the .alx files and using the <required>true</required> switch(They are grayed out so user's can't deselect them.)

I posted a few times on how to setup software distribution on the BES server for pushing software. Search for in among the older dated posts and you should find out how.
