Angry IT Policy: Password options

Please Login to Remove!

We're currently running a simple password policy (4 character, no complexity requirements) but management would like that further simplified. Specifically they want to be able to use something along the lines of "AAAA" for a password. As far as I've found this won't work, and seems to be part of the handheld code even if no IT Policy is being used.

Is there a way to change this?

I dont think you can.. I do know that you can put in a password like aqaq, things like that, but I do not think it can ever just be aaaa. I always tell my users to put in something easy to type in a hurry. Especially if your not requireing anything complex.

you should enable password pattern check, so you can make sure that the user at least uses a number and a character, i don't see another way to check the quality of pwds

I would love to enable the pattern check, but the push around here is towards simplifying. Don't really get that, it's not like we would allow simple passwords on NT accounts..

My guess would be that your Password policy of xxxx is not successful due to the Password Duress feature that is present on the BlackBerry. See this KB article for information on this feature:

Yes, the duress password policy would not be possible if the BlackBerry allowed passwords of all the same character. Plus the point of a password is for security and it would be stupid to have a password of all the same character. You will also find that the BlackBerry does not allow simple sequences such as 1234, abcd.....etc. It would be stupid to allow these anyways and is not possible to change.
