Default BlackBerry Storm will not activate to BES

Please Login to Remove!

We've just purchased two Storms and neither of them will complete an Enterprise Activation. We have other BlackBerry models and they have all completed the process without a hitch. Our server version is 4.1.4.16 and GroupWise is our platform. BlackBerry support tells me that this version should allow the activation to take place. Verizon said we are provisioned correctly and we were able to register. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Make sure you have data set up on the devices for BES and not BIS.

I have to say the Storm is a little stubborn to activate.

Make sure you *228 and I also reboot after that.

Where do I check on the phone to make sure it's set for BES and not BIS?

Nowhere to check really except with VZW T-Support. Call 'em and ask what data plan in on the device.

Well there is that handy new website for T-Support users to check provisioning .. just as easy to call VZW though.

We were told that we had to upgrade OS software from 4.7.0.65 to 4.7.0.78 to fix a bug on it. Once done all worked fine.- two devices no issues encountered.

I did the OS upgrade yesterday. I ended up hooking the Storm up via USB just to see what would happen. It assigned the device to the account. It went into a running state. First time it ever did that. However, when I look at the user properties, the device is not listed. The device is pulling email from the GroupWise 8 server. It is not pulling the calendar data however. Enterprise Activation still fails when initiated from the device wirelessly. I'm stumped on this one.

I just came across the same problem yesterday. Of our 12 devices, 11 were 8330's and 1 was a storm. All was working fine and well until we replaced the storm with a new storm (faulty "End" button). We also swapped another 8330 for a new storm. So yesterday I ran through the setup and provisioned new passwords to these 2 user accounts and they failed to activate. They connected and the server received the phone pins, but then they just stalled out saying "waiting for services", and the server never sent the service books to these phones. It can't be an issue on the server side because the one storm was already activated on the account. I just tried to activate a different phone and it failed.

Any help?

Solved it! Here's what I did. I went to this link---
vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/download.aspx?ct=corporate.

Selected the BlackBerry Model 9530 and downloaded the BlackBerry Device Software V4.7 onto the same system where the BlackBerry Manager is running.

Connected the Storm via USB. Opened the Manager and selected the user that is using the Storm, right-clicked on the user and chose Assign Device. The attached Storm shows up in the list. Select it.

Go back to the phone, Go to Options, Advance Options, Enterprise Activation and Activate. It should show something like Activating (desktop) across the top of the display. All the options should eventually show up as initializing and then completed. At the top, activating % should increase until it reached 100%. Eventually you should see a box showing Enterprise Activation Completed.

Now disconnect the phone from the system. Do a Refresh in Manager. The device, model number, etc should now appear correctly in the user's properties.

Phone should synch up wirelessly now.

So, I'm having this issue as well and I cannot seem to find a solution for this!

I have searched Google thoroughly and I can't find anything that really is related to my issue. I'm trying to activate a 9530 onto our BES and its not even getting past the initial steps. I'm running 4.7.0.90 (4.7.0.114) on it after a wipe. It's been enabled with the carrier. I'm getting those garble emails in my inbox when I wirelessly activate. When I hook it up to Desktop Manager and try I get the same message.

Yes, my DM is set up to activate via BES (we push through a lot of handhelds).

I called the carrier and the device is enterprise enabled. When I hit "status" the BES says "no desktop address".

I've reached the breaking point of my patience with this thing. I need help!

Is anybody else activated on the BES? If the emails are reaching the BES but are not getting picked it's either the messages are being modified, permissions are wrong or DTM has written to your mailbox and BES now ignores any items due to that.

You can check for the last one easily by looking in the MAGT log for 'still handled by desktop'. If that is the case, uninstall DTM, remove your account from BES, choose the option to remove all BB info, readd and activate.

For permissions, try running the IEMSTest utility. If it fails then odds are you are missing the Administer Information Store permission.

If the emails are being modified you will either see something like [SPAM] in the subject line or there will be on ETP.dat attachment.

Let us know what you find.

Unhappy BES not activating wirelessly

Hi there,
i hope you can help. My bold wont activate wireless (just keep activating till i get an error). When I put my SIM on another device, it activates almost immediately.

the difference between the two devices:

1) one that doesnt activate : it's a blackberry bold, bought in US (I am currently in Dubai) NOT locked (I can receive / make calls, sms, I can even access the internet and until recently I was able (altho i didnt sync it wirelessly but just used the cable because I didnt want to wait till our admin can give me a password) to receive emails wirelessly.) I have done everything from wiping the device several times, to asking Admin to remove / recreate my account, even called carrier who confirmed that "all is OK" on their side.

2) one that activates : it's 8310 bought locally (from the carrier : Etisalat).

There's one things that I think might be the problem : when I wipe the device and restarts I immediately get two emails : 1) Your BB has been registered with wireless network 2) Welcome to ROGERS (instead of Etisalat - the local carrier that I am using. I get this message on the 8310 ).

Diagnostic report :no report, continuously running! With cable i get Blackberry registration : No, Connected to Blackberry : No, Blackerry PIn-PIn = NO

Please help.. Thanks

That sounds just like we have here in the UK when Vodafone mis-provision a BB for "consumer" use instead of Enterprise. This is totally unconnected to the SIM's BES provisioning and it's how they soft lock the BB so it won't work against a BES unless you paid extra for it. It's done at the service book level and here can only be reset by the carrier (there may well be a way to hack the SBs to switch them but we don't need to worry about that). You might be able to do what the OP did and blast a new OS on there then use BM. Otherwise contacting Rogers might be your only legit option but we don't use them in the US so I am not an expert on their setup, sorry.
