Default OTA from Intranet

Please Login to Remove!

We set up a Intranet homepage for our blackberry's. I would like to be able to just upload software there and let the users download and install it OTA as they please, but I keep getting a weird HTTP error when trying to download;

Quote:
HTTP Error 406: Not Acceptable
The page you are trying to load is not supported by the browser. Please try loading a different page.
I'm useing IIS on a win2000 server. Just browsing the pages work but when I click on a link to a Jad file I get that error.

The following is the simple HTML i'm using to link to the Jad;

Code:
<a href="bbtoday.jad">bbtoday</a>
Am I missing something?

(BTW i'm using BES 4.0.2.8 and I have a mixture of BB OS 4.0.2.37 and the older version 4.0.0.24 (haven't finished upgradeing everyone)

I am able to browse it with firefox and IE on my computer, and if I link to a OTA download hosted by someone else (http://www.dynoplex.com/OTA/nextel_s...spellcheck.jad) for an example, it works. It just Jad files on my server that get that error.

did you load up the MIME types on the IIS server?

For IIS:
- Open up Internet Services Manager (W2K) or Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (W2K3)
- Expand your virtual server
* Expand Web Sites (only for W2K3)
- Right-click on Default Web Site and click Properties
- Click on the HTTP Headers tab then click on the File (or MIME) Types button
- Click on New File Type and add the following:

Associated Extension: cod
Content Type (MIME): application/vnd.rim.cod

Associated Extension: jad
Content Type (MIME): text/vnd.sun.j2me.app-descriptor

Associated Extension: jar
Content Type (MIME): application/java-archive

assuming you mean directly access the Jad through the BB browser, I still get the 500 error.

assuming you set everything up correct, i'm not sure what to say. i've never had an issue with those MIME settings and an IIS server.

I'll keep working on it. I know its just an IIS problem because I setup a quick apache setup on a linux box I had laying around the office and it worked.

I guess I'll just keep working on it unless someone has a better idea (besides keeping the apache install).

Did you ever have any luck with getting rid of the http 406 error? I have the same issue with my internal iis box. When I browse with BB and try to retrieve .adp files that i've posted I get the error. It works OK for downloading .mid files but I'm trying to post .adp's for 7100 users to download for ringtones, but no luck. I can download .adp files from other sites, but no go internally. I've added .adp to Mime types at server level and within http header option too, but still getting 406 error. Anything you can pass along would be much appreciated

I got it figured out - found another thread regarding OTA apps and it detailed the .adp mime definition a little better - I had the content type slightly wrong - had: audio/adp needed to have: audio/adpcm

Thx for all the excellent info. on the site.
