Exclamation Jibi - Migrate users during 3.6-4 upgrade (new install)

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all
I need to do upgrade 3.6->4. And i want to do kill 3.6, install clean 4.0 and then migrate import the users from the old install into new one. How can i migrate the users so they retain their sync data, and don't need to redownload or reregister with the server?

thanks

Exclamation

Do you use IT Policy? If not, then this is QUITE simple. You will do a complete uninstall of BES 3.6. If you installed BES 3.6 on MSDE7, then remove it as well. You will want to stop the MSDE/SQL svcs and copy the database (most likely BESMgmt.mdf and .ldf) to a safe location prior to removing MSDE7. You will install BES 4.0 and MSDE 2000 (or SQL 2000, if you wish). During the installation and configuration, you will keep the SRP ID, SRP Auth Key, BES svc acct mailbox, and BES server instance name (listed in BlackBerry Manager) the same. Thats all. Once you have it installed, it should pull all of the information from the Exchange mailbox and voila. At some point, you will want your users to do an Enterprise Activation (requires OS 4.0), but it is not required for their mail and calendar to work - just everything else.

You can also search this forum for '4.0 migration' or some sort of similar combination and find about 50 threads with details on how to do the same process 10 different ways. The 4 things listed above MUST stay the same in order to not affect the users.

We run MS SQL 2000
Do i need to delete the old database from MS SQL and let the 4.0 create new one, or shell i leave it intact?

The 3.6 install was done by another person and they have used Administrator as acount for all bes services (even though BESAdmin was created and configured). Are you saying i need to use this Admin acount again in order for things to work smoothly?

Remoevd 3.6, deleted DB, renamed old RIM folder, rebooted, checked the prep steps, started new isntall. It complained that it couldn't run SQL querry, then after the install BES can't talk to SQL.

WTF am i missing? Upgrade failed, New install failed.....Either i'm super dumb, or there is something wrong with manual or install files.

i don't get this

On page 14 of the install manual it says in "Assign Database roles" to assign db_owner to "configuration database".

How can this be completed when there is no database yet? it's the install that creates it!
