Default Ok, I know this is simple.. but huh?

Hi, we're a small enterprise that just deployed BES 4.0.2.8 over Exchange 2003. Everything is working fine after ironing out a few rough spots, but I have a question.

The idea behind deploying BES was to eliminate the DTM completely. Our users are incredibly resource heavy, and the DTM was unnecessary system overhead.

Can users on BES use the DTM? Are they required to? What happens if they try to sync the handheld in the same manner they did prior to the BES rollout (eg, just plug it into the nifty USB cable)?

And the irony is that I have no problems understanding a single topic in the forum, yet I feel incredibly stupid anyway. Oh well, TGIF.

What version of BES were you on beforehand? Or were you running the Desktop Redirector? (Slight difference to the DTM)

If you were on a V3.x BES and using DTM then they don't have to at all as long as their handheld code is also V4 and above. They can if they want to (manual backups/restores, non OTA installs etc) but for the integral parts of a BB it is not really needed anymore.

If they were using DTR then they don't use that at all anymore. If they do you'll get duplicate mails and all other fun sorta things.

We were using the DTR previously with no BES. Thanks!

With BES 4.0\HH 4.0 the user does not require Desktop Manager to be installed. They can still choose to use this as it doesn't really matter.

Contrary to dustbin's e-mail they can still run the Desktop Redirector without duplicate e-mails.
