Default New handset for an existing user, how to change device?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there
I'm new to Blackberry, and have found myself the sole and inexperience admin of a BES with 10 users. One has broken the menu key on his blackberry handset, and I wish to switch him to a spare handset.

How do I migrate to a new handset without losing his settings?
I have both devices here, and unrestricted access to all the servers.

Thanks

What versions are your BES and the software on the 2 handsets?

Generally the easiest way is to select the user in BlackBerry Manager > Right click > Set activation password. Set a password. On the new device, put SIM in, connect to network, make sure device is clean (wiped). Go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation. Input the user's email address and the password that you set in BB Manager, click menu key, select Activate Now. Off it will go.

Typically, things like font settings, bookmarks, call lists, custom words, etc etc will all pull down from backed up settings on BES. Address/calendar will synch with BES, and mail will be pre-populated to device as per BES settings. So the user might drop some email history on the new device compared to the old one, but this is a quicker, cleaner and easier way than messing around with backing up and restoring data across BBs then EA'ing.

Will EA on the new handset disable his original handset at the same time?
Do I have to wipe both handhelds before I begin? I've already wiped the new handset for the move.

BB manager is 4.1.4.15
Phones are 4.2.1.94

Thanks

Yes, it will. If the user has BIS email, however, he will need to update his PIN to reflect the new device. Everything on BES will stop for old BB though.

If you've wiped the new one, EA it. Once it is finished and you're happy with it, wipe the old handheld. No need to do it before you EA the new one.
