Hi,

When I reboot the DC that the BES server is using, I absolutely need to restart the BES server or it stops fowarding mails. I have 3 DCs in my site and 2 of those are GCs. Is there a way to make the transition from one GC to another smoother? I hear about a patch from microsoft but haven't found any links anyhwere to it.

DC - Windows 2003 - SP2.

This is normal behavour for the BES. I always thought that if you restart a DC that you had to restart the Exchange server. And if you restart the Exchange server you HAVE to restart the BES, no if's and's or but's about it.

Is your DC and Exchange separate machines? Do you restart your Exchange after restarting the DC?

What is the exact process you follow and where is each component(DC/GC/Exchange/BES)?

BES, Exchange and the 3 DCs all have their own machine. Exchange is able to find another GC without much problem and I never have to reboot it after a DC reboot. At worse there will be some events on the exchange server stating it can't find DCx, but it fails over to another DC and mail distribution continues without a problem in a timely manner.

As far as process is concern, there isnt one per say. Since as long as we don't reboot all 3 DCs at the same time there's no significant impact on the network. We usually reboots the BES after a DC reboot, but sometimes people forget. I'm just trying to see if there's a way around this annoyance.

A quick google search returned some info about a patch by microsoft, so I was wondering what the experts here knew about that.
