We're going to install Exchange SP2 on our exchange server. In addition, we will install Exchange SP2 on the ESM of BES. I want to find out whether it will break any send as permission of the bes service account? The BES service account is a regular domain user.

It's been a while since we did that but I think it's ok, iirc it was a patch and not SP2 which broke sendas. Be aware that if you just applied the Exchange security patch to your Exchange servers last week, the SP2 CDO and MAPI32 dlls are different and may be downgraded bythe SP2 application. If you have applied the security patch, check your file versions on your exchange server after applying SP2. After the security patch the versions should be 6.5.7654.12 so if you applied it and they aren't at that after SP2, re-apply the latest security patch.

Thanks a lot. No, we have not applied the Exchange 2003 security patch that MS released two weeks ago. I know it will replace the CDO and MAPI32, so we will hold off on this.

I thought installing Exchange SP2 will revoke domain admins send as permission? But I dont think this will matter because my BES service account is just a regular domain users, right?

There is another hotfix that MS released long time ago that would strip out the send as permission if you have "full mailbox access" on someone mailbox. We already have this hotfix installed on Exchange SP1.

I believe installing SP2 will require installing the SP2 version of the same hotfix for removing send as permission if you have full mailbox access. Is it true?

Ah right I am with you and yeah if your besadmin account isn't a domain admin you aren't affected by that particular one. I apply so many damn hotfixes it's easy to lose track of when they were! I am not sure if SP2 reintroduced the sendas issue sorry, SP2 was a while ago for us. Have a good look around the forum as there will be an answer here from when it happened.

why don't you just install Microsoft MAPI CDO 1.2.1, it is a lot simpler IMO
