I have an old server running BES 4.0 and I'm getting a new server that will run 4.1.6

Can I still perform the knife-edge cutover as instructed by RIM? Should I upgrade the old server to 4.1.6 first?

Although there are options, it's always best to upgrade what you have first, run with it for a week then knife-edge to the new hardware if all is good.

Stu is correct, do it all in one shot not a good thing, upgrade first wait a few days then knife edge cutover. Dont forget to backup your DB before begining.
