Default Deploying application using BES

Please Login to Remove!

I have been doing some reading and believe I have set up my BES to deploy applications to the handhelds.

I am using Googlemaps as my test appilcation, I have downloaded it and placed it in the following folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Application\Google maps\

I then cd \Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and ran loader.exe /index

I then gave everyone read and execute permissions to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion

Then in the blackberrry manager I went to Software Configurations and created a new configuration

I set the source path to \\<BES Name>\research in motion

I also set the policies Disposition to Required.

I then selected my test subject and clicked assign software configuration
then
Depoly applications

We then waited overnight and checked the unit the next morning and nothing.

Is there a log that i can check, because I havent found any errors in regrads to the deployment.

What about logs that I can look at to find any issues with what I have done?

What version of BES? And how many users are you pushing this out at once?

I am running BES 4.6.1, I would like to push it out to 30 users, but right now I am testing with 1 8830 and 1 Storm.

Quick question:

When you did the loader /index, it DID add those 2 package files to the directory, right?
And when you created the software config, the application showed up properly? You set it to wireless? And then added a "required" policy?

After I assign a user a software config, first I click "Update config check status" ... That should then change the Application Status to "Install Required"

Then you can click "Deploy Apps."

It should take less than 10 minutes.

Also, make sure your device.xml and vendor.xml files are up to date on the server hosting the package. I don't think they need to be up to date on the BES, but it wouldn't hurt.

The first time I tried to set this up, my problem was I couldn't get the loader /index to work. Because the subdirectory I created to host the packages was called "application" ... not "applications"

Apparently, that's an issue.

Also, whenever I've had issues with the actual push, it was because I had old device.xml and vendor.xml files.

***************************

Download the updated device.xml and vendor.xml files from the following web sites:
https://www.blackberry.com/Desktop/D...XML/Device.xml

https://www.blackberry.com/Desktop/D...XML/Vendor.xml

Copy these files to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader.

Look in the BES policy log for errors. Also in the management console, click on the user and have a look at the software config (all the way down).
