Default Disaster recovery guide for BEs on a VM?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

Just realised in my org we dont have any disaster recovery guides for our BES, so I thought I'd write one.

ANyway - setup is, BES v 4.1.x is on a VM and database is on a separate server.

I am thinking a quick and easy approach to do a backup is take a backup of the current VM. If the current one fails, just recover the archived VM?
That is of course that the 2 versions are the same software.

Also - the router server is also virtualised so will do the same with that.

Am I missing anything?

snapshot of VM's and flat file backup of SQL will take care of of it.

Make sure you have a list of SRP and all CAL's too for worst case

Scotty I can't believed you IMed me after posting. I hope I get double beers for that

If snapshotting (is that a real word?) make sure you snapshot after every update, as you don't want your CDO and MAPI32 dlls mismatched (or anything else!).

For those who weren't on the IM with me and Scott and are interested in DR, the main thing I said was the knottyrope mantra - "Backup the DB", at least once a day. The db is the heart of your BES so you can have as many DR plans and setups as you like but without the DB, you are reactivating x users.
I was a BES and Exchange admin once.
Then my world turned Blue.
