| Help! MR4 took BES down, what MSI does it want? 900 folks offline... Please Login to Remove! I'm trying to install 4.1.6 MR4 and *after* it removed all the services it wants a "BlackBerry Enterprise Server.msi" file before it will continue. I pointed it to our BES 4.1 installation files (not just a SP extraction) and it says it isn't a valid install file. WTH!?!?
"The file <filepath> is not a vlid installation package for the product BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange. Try to find the installation package 'Blackberry Enterprise Server.msi' in a folder from which you can install BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange."
Damn you MR4.. that *is* the installation package we installed BES from scratch with.
Now what? We don't have T-Support and this just took 900 people offline. I may have to move them to our other BES server.

| Ok, may have overreacted. It looks like the services are running and MR4 didn't remove anything by this point. I canceled out of the install and it said nothing was modified. We're in the process of validating if the BBs are still working or not right now. | | Offline

| All users moved to the other server and service is restored. Just have to figure out how to get this hosed box working again now. | | Offline

| I believe when you install a maint release, it's looking for the .msi of the release. So the 4.1.6 .msi file.

| The error seemed more specific than that. The explorer browse window was even looking for the "BlackBerry Enterprise Server.msi" file, which would be the main server install, no? Everyone is running happily on the other server for now, I can try pointing the MR to it's own .msi if you think its worth it. Can't hurt.

| Do you have the 4.1.6 .msi files (the ones you used to install or upgrade to 4.1.6) on the BES still? There is an .msi file associated to that that the MR4 is looking for.

Besides that we have the SP6 install files and the MR2 install files. The MR6 installer didn't like any of them when presented. | | Offline

| Yes, they're done daily. Since all users are running on the other server I'd like to figure out what this one really wants to get it upgraded. | | Offline

| Hi,
If your issue is not solved yet. I would suggest you to go for a reinstall of the BES on this server,
But prior to this you need to backup many folders and Registry.
I faced similar issue while upgrading on BES test server, finally i installed the server with BES4.1.6 Full pack and upgraded to MR4 pointing to the full pack installables.
If you really want more info update here, as i dont see more thread after 8th

| same issue I am trying to install the latest MR and it is also asking me for the MSI. I have the MSI, but it still doesn't like it. Is there a place where you can just download it from?
I really don't want to reinstall if I don't have to. I am having a DST problm that I never had before and someone told me that one of these MRs takes care of the issue. When I put an appointment in my blackberry, it shows up in my Outlook as a later time. If I set for 1:00 on my Blackberry, it shows up as 2:00 in my Outlook.
I wasn't expecting a DST issue thi year.....I figured we were finished with the DST stuff in 2007.
We have all the DST patches installed.....strange issue. | | Offline

| what's the best way of backing up the database anyway? And what is with the need to rename a new server with the same name as the old server when migrating to a new server.....I thought RIM would code better than that. | | Offline

Depends on the platform but generally - SQL Server = native backup, Express = scripts or the new app I was put onto the other day which I can look up if you need, MSDE = osql scripts.
The server name is purely the BES instance when you install BES on a new box you will use the same db from, not the Windows hostname.

DST will remain an issue while the new 2007 US dates stay in place, as all this stuff was written long before the new dates were plucked out of thin air.
Assuming you patched everything correctly in 2007 - If one user has the issue, either their BB or outlook isn't patched. If multiple users, look at maybe a new Exchange server which wasn't patched. The CDO.dll files will show you if an Exch box/BES isn't patched. Every time this has happened to a single user so far it's been BB patch, outlook patch or they are in a different timezone (yes it happens!!).
